Who is this course for? Seafaring officers with a responsibility to take command and control of fire parties and emergency fire situations.
Course Outline This course is accredited by the MCA to STCW ’95, A-VI/3 and will provide part of the statutory training for both deck and engineering officers who wish to qualify for a Certificate of Competency and also for seafarers with a responsibility to lead fire parties during an emergency fire situation. It covers:
- Causes of fires on ships
- Fire prevention
- Firefighting techniques and tactics for ships at sea or in port
- Use of firefighting equipment
- Breathing apparatus and rescue techniques
- Effects of firefighting on ship stability
Benefits It is important to have confident well-trained leaders to deal with a fire situation aboard ship. This course will give delegates the confidence to take effective command and control of fire parties during an emergency fire situation aboard ship at sea in a hot, realistic and challenging environment. It will provide the skills to train other shipboard personnel in the procedures required to be used to mitigate the causes of fire and successfully extinguish a fire aboard ship.
Assessments Assessment will be made by continual visual observation and questioning along with written assessment by competent, experienced trainers.
