Effective First Line Management

Who is this course for?
Newly appointed first line managers or those with little previous formal training. Individuals aspiring to become a first line manager.

Course Outline
This programme provides a range of knowledge, skills and techniques that are required to be successful in the role of a first line manager or supervisor and offers a recognised qualification. During the programme there are ample opportunities to practice the skills and techniques with supportive trainer feedback.

The programme has four mandatory units:

  • Solving problems and making decisions
  • Understanding change in the workplace
  • Planning change in the workplace
  • Achieving objectives through time management

Participants then complete between six and thirteen optional units chosen from a range of 31 covering the whole first line manager role.

A key part of the programme is regular one to one trainer feedback to help in applying learning back in the workplace.

Assessment/Qualifications
There are two mandatory assessments:

A work based assignment to solve a problem in the participant’s own organisation.

A change management report identifying and implementing a change in the participant’s own organisation.

In addition there will be between three and eight assignments, depending upon the units chosen, to apply the theory, skills and techniques covered, to the participant’s workplace.  Successful completion will lead to the ILM Level 3 Certificate in Management.

Future Development
ILM Level 3 Diploma, a Level 4 NVQ in Management or an ILM Level 5 programme or any of the specialist leadership and management courses offered.
